Pet Friendly shelter (PFS)
Citrus County Animal Services is very proud to be able to offer a "Pet Friendly" shelter to those in need during a disaster. In the event of a disaster the pet friendly shelter will be located at the Lecanto Primary School. Dogs (80 pounds or less, must fit comfortably in a large dog crate), cats and birds are welcome. Caging is available for dogs and cats, however, if you have an avian friend you must provide caging.
To be prepared for an event please keep a list available of all the things needed to care for your pet while you are out of your residence. The following is a list to get you started.
- Dog/Cat bed
- Food
- Medications
- Veterinarian's telephone number
- Rabies and yearly vaccination records
- County License
- Collar and Leash
- Favorite toy / ball
We highly recommend vaccinating against kennel cough, which is an upper respiratory condition, with the Bordatella vaccine for cats and dogs.
Pets that arrive at the shelter WITHOUT a Rabies vaccination, WILL NOT be eligible to stay at the Pet Friendly Shelter (PFS).
Pets that arrive at the PFS without yearly vaccinations will receive the vaccine immediately at the owners' expense.
You must also stay at the shelter in order for your pet to qualify. You will be solely responsible for your pet while you are at the shelter. (Walking, feeding, and general care are the responsibility of the owner.)
* Please keep in mind that your pet will not be sleeping in the same building as you, however he/she will only be a hallway away!
